Tips and care advises for your sofa during the End of Year's events
It's Christmas next week and the New Year's Eve in two weeks!
2020 was indeed not easy but we are finally seeing its end, nostalgic much?
Even if we are still under a few restrictions, we must and will spend the festivities with our loved ones (even if it has to be only 5 of them at a time)!
We often take it for granted but the sofa has actually an important place at home. It is the safe place that provides comfort and hosts so many conversations and laughter.
However, in the middle of these joyful get together, spills and a little mess frequently happen.
Unfortunately, nobody can't prevent theses, but we have some tips and pieces of care advice to keep these misadventures to ruin the night and/or your sofa ;)
If you own a fabric sofa, wipe straight away the spot with a damp cloth and then with a dry cloth. If it isn't enough, blot the area with vinegar and do not rub the stain, risking to press it further in the fabric.
Indeed, a fabric sofa is more maintenance, but considering Singapore's humidity and if you want a softer feeling, it is a more suitable option.
If you are looking for a fabric sofa which is easy to maintain, we would highly recommend our signature Acacia fabric. It is fire retardant, scratch resistant and you can easily wipe the spills away the moment it happens. Not only it is water and stain resistant, you will also have a variety of 15 different textures and 300 colours to choose from.
If you own a leather sofa, it is definitely easier to clean up any spills as they don't get absorbed in the material. Mix mild detergent with water to wipe the spatter away and follow up with leather conditioners to maintain the condition.
There is no discussion that a leather sofa is more durable and firmer than fabric sofas. Additionally it is hypoallergenic and contain moisture, making its surface soft and pliable. Overall, the big bonus point about leather sofas is that they don't get old, instead they age charmingly, developing an unique texture over time.
Our main advise would be to get the best quality of leather which is full grain, its natural surface is unique, extremely strong and durable (as it contains the strongest fibers in the hide), and breathable resulting in less moisture from prolonged contact. As full grain leather ages, rather than wearing out, it burnishes and beautifies, developing a much sought-after patina and unique character that cannot be easily duplicated. Truly, the more you use it, the better it looks and feels.
All our sofas are available in full grain leather (several colours available) or acacia fabric (300 colours,15 different textures), let us know which one you would be interest in and we will send you a quote :)
We hope that it was useful, all of us at Stitch & Kit are wishing you
a great December and Happy Holidays!
